Directed by Manjari and co-written by both sisters, the story is set in Rajasthan and follows a teenager who dreams of competing in the National Skateboarding Championships. Her passion is ignited by an incident involving a Londoner, who introduces her to the world of skateboards. All the children of the village slowly get pulled in and find skateboarding to be a way of expressing themselves. In addition to fighting the villagers on their dislike for skateboards, Prerna must also fight her father who believes that skateboarding is an activity for boys.

Manjari, who has previously directed the short films The Last Marble (2012) and The Corner Table (2014), elaborated on the story of Skater Girl in a conversation with CinemaExpress: “Skater Girl is about Prerna who fights through all obstacles, both societal and her inner fears, to embrace her true talent and chase her dreams. But it's also a story about women across different stratas of society and how they connect with each other and relate to each other's struggle. So you see across generations that these women have a story to tell."

The cast of Skater Girl also includes Shafin Patel and Jonathan Readwin, with a special appearance by Waheeda Rehman. This heartwarming tale is coming to Netflix on June 11.
