SNL alum Dana Carvey’s son Dex Carvey passed away at 32

SNL legend Dana Carvey’s eldest son, Dex Carvey passed away on Wednesday night. His girlfriend Kaylee had called first responders around 10 p.m. PT, when Dex had locked himself into the bathroom. The authorities found him unresponsive, and paramedics tried to revive him, but to no avail. The LA Medical Examiner’s e-database confirms that an autopsy has been scheduled. Pending toxicology reports, the cause of death has not been declared yet.

Dana Carvey and his wife Paula took to Instagram on Thursday, November 16, to announce Dex’s demise in a tragic post, “Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy. Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old. Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things—music, art, film making, comedy—and pursued all of them passionately.”

The heartbroken couple continued by stating that Dex loved life and was such a joy to be around that he made others love life as well. But most of all, the sad parents noted, Dex Carvey loved his family, his friends, and his girlfriend.

They recalled and cherished the birthday cards Dex had handmade for them over the years, the late comedian was a lovely human being, his addiction problems notwithstanding. The Carveys concluded their post by extending a hand “to anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers.”

Dana Carvey was very close to his elder son, especially with the latter following in his father’s footsteps, as far as comedy is concerned. Dex had also opened for his father’s Netflix special, Straight, White Male, in 2016. The Carveys also have a younger son, Thomas, who is 30, and an aspiring comedian as well.
