After Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan and Raj Chakraborty’s Dharmajuddho, Indraadip Dasgupta’s Bismillah is facing the wrath of the ‘boycotting’ trend on social media. On Saturday, just one day after its release, the #BoycottBismillah started gaining momentum on Facebook. Riddhi Sen, the lead actor in the film, encountered troll attacks on his film announcement post. His co-actor Debopratimm Dasgupta was also trolled on that thread.
Just a few days ago when Dharmajuddho was facing the wrath of boycott calls, director Raj Chakraborty took to Twitter to express his disgust. Now, Soham Chakraborty, one of the actors in the film, has also reacted to the trend.
Soham Chakraborty, whose Paka Dekha will be released on September 2, said that Raj was civilised in his social media reaction but these people don’t deserve civility. He further added that the fraternity is disgusted by the faceless and nameless trolls. In an interview with Anandabazar, he said, “We do not pay attention to these people. Why should we engage in a debate with them? In many cases, these are deliberate and planned activities.”
Meanwhile, Bismillah director Indraadip Dasgupta told OTTplay that his producer and he would decide on lodging a complaint against the ‘hatemongers’. “There will be no freedom of acts or anything if such things go on,” he told us.
Bismilla shows the journey of a young shehnai player Bismillah Ali, played by Riddhi. The film portrays how a Muslim family upholds the tradition of Indian classical music, which essentially is a storehouse of harmony.
