Sohini Sarkar, whose Byomkesh Hatyamancha will be released on August 11, wishes to watch all three releases over the weekend. Along with Arindam Sil’s fourth instalment of Byomkesh Bakshi, Raj Chakraborty’s socio-political drama Dharmajuddha and Tathagata Mukhopadhyay’s surreal drama Bhotbhoti will also be releasing this weekend. All three films feature ensemble casts. While Raj and his team said releasing more than one big film over one day is detrimental to the industry. However, Arindam said since their films are of a different flavour, there will be no conflict.
Meanwhile, Sohini said that she would like to watch all three films, one by one. “As a film enthusiast, I would like to watch all these three films – Byomkesh Hotyamancha, Dharmajuddho and Bhotbhoti,” she said. The actress also informed that Tathagata Mukherjee, director of Bhotbhoti, approached her to work on the film as a character. “That’s when I read the script of Bhotbhoti. It is very interesting and we have not seen anything in Bengali before. In fact, when I learnt Bibriti Chatterjee will be playing the character I was approached with, I thought she is a much better choice. The moot point is, it is going to be a lovely film,” said the actress.
Sohini is also keen to watch Dharmajuddha. “It features such brilliant actors, like Swatilekha Sengupta, Ritwick Chakraborty, Subhashree Ganguly, and so on. This film was supposed to be released in 2020, before the pandemic. I think all these films are getting released together because of the backlog created by the pandemic. Rajda (Chakraborty, director of Dharmajuddha) and the SVF team (producer of Byomkesh Hatyamancha) are not insane to release films together that divide shows and audiences. I want both films to succeed. More success means more money generation and that will bring more producers and investment. And finally, I will get more work.” said the actress.
