Sohum Shah struggled to find distributors for Tumbbad. The movie was made on a modest budget of Rs. 5 crore, which is 30 times lesser than the sequel's budget. After not finding producers for the longest time, Sohum had to step in and finance his own movie.

Sohum Shah confirmed Tumbbad 2 with Pen Studios on-board as producers. The movie is expected to go on floors in 2026. The script of the film remains unknown as of now. Since the original film was based on mythology of Hastar and explored the theme of myths and greed, something similar can be expected from the sequel of the movie. However, which story would be explored remains uncertain as of now. Unfortunately, Rahi Anil Barve, who had helmed the original film, had confirmed that he has parted ways with the franchise and thus, there will be a new director on board too. An announcement of the same is expected soon.
