Debutante director Prerana Agarwal’s Kannada film Sold, which was started five years ago, had released in theatres on March 4. Starring Kavya Shetty in the lead, as an investigative journalist, the film also had Deepam Kohli, Danish Sait, Bharath JB, Siddharth Madhyamika, Hanumanthe Gowda and Bhavani Prakash, among others, on its cast.

In the film, Kavya’s character, Ruchita is investigating human trafficking in the city, only to find that the case hits quite close to home when a friend’s child, Rashmi (Shivani Ballakuraya) gets kidnapped. She is aided in her quest to find Rashmi by a police officer played by Danish Sait, for whom the role in Sold will be the first serious character onscreen.

Prerana’s ‘raw and real’ film deals with the subject of human trafficking, specifically involving children, based on first-hand information the filmmaker collected, including during her years in Bengaluru, as a student. The narrative unfolds from the perspective of three characters – a gangster, a journalist and a kidnapped child. Sold is now set to come to OTT. The film will get its OTT premiere on Voot Select on April 29, Friday.

Eleven-year-old Shivani Ballukuraya plays Rashmi, the daughter of working parents, who falls victim to kidnapping by a child trafficking gang. Shivani, who began her showbiz journey with the TV serial Milana, has been a part of nearly 30 films and several TV series.

Lead actress Kavya had often said that working on Sold was an intense and enriching experience, given the hard-hittinng subject it involved. The actress, who was also seen in the Malayalam movie Bro Daddy recently, has a few projects lined up for release, including the Telugu remake of Love Mocktail, Gurtunda Seethakalam, in which she plays the role done by Amrutha Iyengar in the original. She’s also got Vishruth Naik’s Kaada, a film about a serial killer, in which she co-stars with J Karthik.
