One of the Kannada films releasing this week is the Kavya Shetty and Danish Sait starrer Sold . Directed by debutante Prerana Agarwal, the film was started five years ago and finally gets its date with audiences.

What is Sold about

Prerana’s ‘raw and real’ film deals with the subject of human trafficking, specifically involving children, based on first-hand information the filmmaker collected. The narrative unfolds from the perspective of three characters – a gangster, a journalist and a kidnapped child.

Who is acting in Sold?

The cast of Sold is led by Kavya Shetty, who plays an investigative journalist called Ruchita. In the film, Ruchita begins looking into human trafficking after a friend’s daughter, Rashmi (Shivani Ballakuraya) gets kidnapped. She is aided in her quest to find Rashmi by a police officer played by Danish Sait, for whom the role in Sold will be the first serious character onscreen.

The film also stars producer Deepam Kohli, Bharath JB, Siddharth Madhyamika, Hanumanthe Gowda and Bhavani Prakash, among others.

Produced by Deepam Kohli for HornOK Films, Sold releases in theatres on March 4.

Danish’s first outing as a character that he’s not created

Those who have followed Danish Sait’s career long enough will know that his onscreen outings so far have been with characters he has made popular with his online videos, be it Nagraj, Asgar or Gopi. Sold, which Danish signed up for five years ago, sees him play a police officer.

Meet Shivani, the kidnap victim in Sold

Eleven-year-old Shivani Ballukuraya plays Shivani, the daughter of working parents, who falls victim to kidnapping by a child trafficking gang. Shivani, who began her showbiz journey with the TV serial Milana, has been a part of nearly 30 films and several TV series.

Prerana has a Bengaluru connect

Although director Prerana Agarwal is Mumbai based now, she has a Bengaluru connect, having pursued Mass Communication at a popular city college. This is also why she chose to make her film debut with a Kannada movie.
