The comedy-action film Son of Sardaar 2 officially premiered today, September 26, 2025, on Netflix, a standalone sequel to the 2012 hit. This digital release follows the movie’s theatrical run, which began on August 1, 2025, approximately eight weeks ago.
Ajay Devgn stars as the well-intentioned Jassi Singh Randhawa again in this Vijay Kumar Arora-directed 2025 release, in which he finds himself in yet another complicated and chaotic scenario. In addition to Sanjay Mishra, Mrunal Thakur, and Ravi Kishan, Mukul Dev makes a posthumous appearance in the film.
The story revolves around Jassi (Devgn), an Indian man who waits ten long years for a visa before he and his wife Rabia (Thakur) may eventually move to Scotland. But Rabia's divorce petition is an immediate obstacle upon his arrival. A complex plot entangles Jassi as he stays in the UK, resolute in his desire to mend their relationship.
The main storyline takes place when Jassi and Rabia volunteer to help Saba (Roshni Walia) and Goggi (Sahil Mehta), a young couple whose father, Raja Sandhu (Kishan), is against their marriage because Goggi is the son of a powerful and patriotic ex-gangster turned successful businessman. Jassi and Rabia devise a scheme where Jassi pretends to be a retired military hero and Rabia his faithful Indian wife in order to win over Raja. They had to manage the suspicions of Raja's brothers, Titu (Vindu Dara Singh) and Tony (Dev), and a slew of hilarious misunderstandings and high-stakes mayhem as a result of this complex deceit in a foreign place. At its heart, the novel explores the development of Jassi and Rabia's bond as they are compelled to collaborate, bringing their previous emotions and present circumstances into sharp focus.
Between filming and its eventual release, Son of Sardaar 2 encountered several obstacles. Starting in July 2024, principal photography commenced in Edinburgh, London, and Chandigarh, India. The original scheduled theatrical release date of July 25, 2025, has been pushed back to August 1, 2025. It is worth mentioning that Ravi Kishan was cast in place of Sanjay Dutt, who was unable to join in the UK production because of visa issues.
The film was deemed a failure by industry observers due to its anticipated box office gross of ₹60.9 crore (US$7.2 million). Critics were divided when it premiered. Although the film's box office performance was disappointing, its release on Netflix will allow a wider audience to enjoy Jassi Singh Randhawa's most recent installment.
