Dahaad has officially returned for a second season, following its critically acclaimed debut at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it made history as the first Indian streaming series to do so. Rumour has it that Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti's police procedural thriller is set to return for a second season, with production already underway at Prime Video.
Police officers Anjali Bhaati and Devilal Singh (Sonakshi Sinha [Kakuda and Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi] and Gulshan Devaiah [Blurr and Cabaret, respectively) investigated the disappearance of 27 women in the first season, which streamed in 2023 and took place in a tiny village in Rajasthan. They tracked down a serial murder suspect, played by Vijay Varma, thanks to the disturbing case.
As per The Hollywood Reporter India, the screenplay for Dahaad 2 is currently in development. After the first season's smash success and critical acclaim, Prime Video plans to stream the show on a massive scale. The entertainment portal received information from a source that the team is currently working diligently and will soon decide on a filming schedule.
Despite the streamer not publicly commenting or responding to the entertainment portal's request for comment, behind-the-scenes progress is reportedly proceeding smoothly. Who knows? Maybe Sinha, Devaiah, and Varma will be back for another season, or maybe there will be new characters and stories.
The first season of Dahaad was well-received by critics and audiences alike for its realistic plot and superb acting, especially Varma's terrifying villain role. Apart from being a major contender for the Berlinale Series Award, the series was also a part of the Berlin International Film Festival.
With a year full of projects for both Akhtar and Kagti, the latter's Superboys of Malegaon (which stars Adarsh Gourav and is based on the true story of amateur filmmakers in Malegaon) has also been well received. You may see the movie right now on Prime Video.
With each passing day, viewers of the critically acclaimed thriller Dahaad are getting more and more excited for what the producers have in store for Season 2.
