Ajay Devgn and Kichcha Sudeepa last week shared a back and forth on social media for all to see over India’s national language. The conversation started after the rise of South Indian films in the Hindi belt. Sonu Nigam is the latest celebrity to chip in with his views on the issue.

On the sidelines of an event, Sonu said that nowhere in the constitution is it said that Hindi is the national language and that while it might be the most popular language, it is not the national language. He added that there is a debate about Tamil and Sanskrit and that Tamil is claimed to be the oldest language.

Kichcha Sudeepa took to Twitter to point out the massive success of South Indian movies dubbed in HIndi such as Pushpa: The Rise, RRR and KGF: Chapter 2 is having Bollywood struggles. Devgn replied to the tweet calling Hindi the national language, prompting the online debate.

The two actors have since put their difference in thoughts aside and ended the short lived rivalry aside and parted on a more wholesome note. Among other actors to talk about the issue and the rise of pan-Indian films are Ram Gopal Varma, Sonu Sood and Sidharth.

Ajay Devgn is currently basking in the success of his third directorial, Runway 34 co-starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh. The movie has received mixed reviews and has done well in the box office with competition from KGF: Chapter 2.

Kichcha Sudeepa on the other hand, is awaiting the release of his fantasy action flick, Vikrant Rona. The movie is set to hit theatres in Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.
