With a twist at every turn, Sookshmadarshini is a worthy addition to the mystery film genre in Malayalam cinema. Starring Nazriya Nazim and Basil Joseph along with a stellar supporting cast, the film ensures that it stays one step ahead of the even most hawk-eyed fans. Sookshmadarshini follows Priyadarshini as she tries to find the link between Manuel’s actions and his mother who goes missing. Priya strongly suspects mild-mannered Manuel is behind the missing. So, will Priyadarshini (Nazriya Nazim) be able to save Grace Ammachi and expose Manuel (Basil Joseph)? Read on to know more about what really happened at Sookshmadarshini’s ending and of course, spoilers ahead.

Sookshmadarshini plot

Sookshmadarshini stays close to its protagonist Priya as she snoops around Manuel's house to know what happened to Ammachi. She does not buy into Manuel’s claims that his mother suffers from Alzheimer's and has wandered off one night. She is inexplicably worried about the elderly woman and even reaches out to Manuel’s sister Diana, who comes from New Zealand. Priya, along with her other curious women of the neighbourhood, desperately puts together the pieces of the puzzle, only to reach a startling conclusion.

Sookshmadarshini ending explained

For nearly two hours of Sookshmadarshini, director MC Jithin and writers Libin TB and Athul Ramachandran led us to believe that something untoward has happened to Ammachi. But with just 30 minutes left in the film, Priya and the viewers realise that Diana could have fallen prey to Manuel’s actions.

An Instagram search reveals to Priya that Diana shared a close bond with Aditi, who came down to Kerala in search of her partner. In quick flashbacks it is revealed that Ammachi was not happy about this relationship and the whole Alzheimer’s and missing drama was orchestrated to force Diana to come home and eliminate her to save the family’s honour.

Sookshmadarshini peaks when it is revealed that it was Ammachi (played by Manohari Joy), who was the mastermind behind the whole operation, and that Manuel was truly the doting son he claimed earlier to be. Manuel, his cousin from the UK (played by Siddharth Bharathan) and uncle (Kottayam Ramesh) were just following the instructions of Ammachi, who turns out to be very sharp and shrewd that she effectively convinced everyone of being a helpless old lady.

In a daredevil move in the climax, Priya saves Aditi who was also abducted by Manuel and his cousin, and calmly tells Ammachi that ‘everything is not ok’. As the culprits are led away by the police, we are also told that Manuel chose Priya’s neighbourhood as he thought the neighbours would not interfere in their actions. Little did he know that he was going to run into the ‘Sherlockian’ Priya, for whom a pressure cooker’s whistle is also a vital clue.

You can now watch Sookshmadarshini on Disney+ Hotstar. The Malayalam film is available in five languages, including Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, with English subtitles on the platform.
