Soorarai Pottru makes it to IMDb Top 3

Suriya-starrer Soorarai Pottru has now become the third highest rated movie globally on IMDb. Directed by Sudha Kongara, the Tamil movie was well received by critics and audiences. Inspired by the book Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey, by the founder of Simplifly Deccan GR Gopinath, the movie talks about the struggles an entrepreneur has to face while setting up a low-cost airline in India.

Soorarai Pottru was selected as one of the 10 Indian films to be screened under the Best Foreign Film category at the 78th Golden Globe Awards. It also entered the Panorama Section of the Shanghai International Film Festival.

Soorarai Pottru was one of the first big movies to directly release on an online streaming platform when it released on Amazon Prime Video last year due to pandemic restrictions in theeatres after the lockdown.

The decision to release the movie directly on an OTT platform was not well received by stakeholders and audiences considering its box office potential and the theatre experience it offers. But Suriya, who also produced the film, went ahead with the OTT release and it soon became evident that the risk was worth taking.

The movie was released simultaneously with its dubbed versions in Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu.
