Jan.E.Man filmmaker Chidambaram is all set for his sophomore directorial. Titled Manjummel Boys, the movie, which is also scripted by him, will once again have an ensemble cast but will be different from his debut movie that was a surprise hit in 2021.

In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Chidambaram says, “This movie is not a comedy at all. It has humour but it’s more about travel and friendship. It will have a few portions in Kochi but most of the shoot will be in Tamil Nadu.”

The upcoming movie has Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Ganapathy and Jean Paul Lal in pivotal roles. “It has an ensemble cast; there are other actors too,” says Chidambaran. “We will be revealing all those details in the coming days. Right now, the plan is begin shooting the film from January 23.”

Manjummel Boys is touted to be produced by Soubin Shahir, who had also backed the yet-to-be-released Romancham. Soubin and Sreenath have previously worked together in films such as Amal Neerad’s Bheeshamparvam and Madhu C Narayanan’s Kumbalangi Nights. In both the movies, the duo played brothers.

Meanwhile, Soubin’s latest release is Sidharth Bharathan’s Djinn. The movie, which is scripted by Kali fame Rajesh Gopinadhan, had wrapped up its shoot ahead of the pandemic, but was delayed for over two years. The makers had deferred its release date twice last year, but finally announced that the movie will drop in theatres on January 6, 2023.

Apart from Soubin, Djinn also has Santhy Balachandran, Shine Tom Chacko, Sharafudheen and Jaffer Idukki in pivotal roles. Soubin also has Romancham set for release this year, along with VK Prakash’s socio-political thriller Live that also stars Mamta Mohandas and Priya Prakash Varrier. The actor is reportedly also gearing up for his second directorial in 2023 that will feature Dulquer Salmaan in the lead.
