The latest industry buzz is that Soundarya Rajinikanth will make her comeback as a director with a web series. It's said that she has clinched a web series deal with Amazon Prime Video. And she has also roped in seasoned actor Sathyaraj to play the lead. An official confirmation, however, is awaited.
A trained graphic designer, Soundarya started working in movies in the last 90s. She was mostly associated with her father Superstar Rajinikanth's movies. And in 2014, she made her debut as a director with Kochadaiiyaan. The movie created quite a hype before its release as it was billed as India's first movie made with photorealistic motion-capture technology. Starring Rajinikanth in a double role, the animated movie, however, failed to live up to the expectations after its release. And it subsequently tanked at the box office.
Soundarya soon tasted success as a director Velaiilla Pattadhari 2. Starring her brother-in-law Dhanush in the lead, the movie was a sequel to the blockbuster Velaiilla Pattadhari (2014). Scripted by Dhanush himself, the movie also had Kajol in the lead role.
Soundarya nurtures the ambition of turning the epic Tamil literature, Ponniyin Selvan, into a web series. She has been working on it for the past few years. She even announced a partnership with the streaming platform MX Player. However, the project has not materialised yet. And we don't have any information on its current status.
In the coming days, we can expect more details about Soundarya's rumoured web series project with Amazon Prime Video.
