Veteran Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor has a fairly deep south film connect. He has not only acted in Telugu and Kannada films, but also shot for some of his Hindi movies in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, among others. Most importantly, though, Anil has been a part of a fair share of Hindi remakes of South hits, like, Nayak, Eeshwar, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas hai, Calcutta Mail, My Wife’s Murder, among others.

So, it was no surprise that Anil was posed a question about the steady influx of big-ticket films from the south, which have been making waves across the country, like Baahubali, RRR, KGF, etc., as well as the continuing streak of films from that belt being remade in Hindi, during the trailer launch of Thar, in which he co-stars with his son, Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor. Anil said, “South has always made good films. Since the time I started working, they have been on top. South will always be an inspiration. In fact, my first film was in Telugu (Vamsa Vruksham), and I’d say that I learnt dedication from working in south films.”

The actor added, “I have done so many films, which are remakes of South films. This was happening, and will keep on happening. South films don't surprise me as they have always been an inspiration.”

Thar, meanwhile, has Anil and Harsh as two men on opposite sides of the law, facing off against each other. Set to release directly on Netflix on May 6, the film, a desi western noir thriller, directed by Raj Singh Choudhary also stars Fatima Sana Shaik and Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles. Thar is the second collaboration between Anil and Harsh after AK vs AK.

Apart from Thar, Anil will also be seen in the Hindi remake of The Night Manager, which had Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie in the lead, along with Aditya Roy Kapoor and Sobhita Dhulipala. He will also be seen in films like Jug Jugg Jeeyo, Animal and Fighter, among others.
