Telugu actor Nikhil Siddharth, who recently tasted pan-India success with his movie Karthikeya 2, faced a major setback as his latest espionage-thriller, Spy, received an overwhelmingly negative response from both critics and audiences. The movie's disappointing performance at the box office overshadowed the impact of his previous blockbuster.

Directed by Garry BH, Spy drew inspiration from true incidents documented in the Netaji files. The film, like Nikhil's other works, explored the intriguing connection between history and its influence on the present. Its central theme revolved around the mysterious disappearance of the iconic freedom fighter, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

The disappearance of Netaji in August 1945 has, for decades, remained a subject of controversy and multiple investigations by the country to unravel the truth behind the event. Despite the prevailing belief that Netaji died in a plane crash in Taiwan, there have been ongoing speculations and claims challenging this theory.

Promising to shed light on some "unknown facts" surrounding Netaji's vanishing, the movie's trailer boasted of revealing "India's biggest secret." However, upon its release, Spy failed to live up to the pre-release hype and audience expectations.

Despite the setback, Nikhil Siddharth remained positive and issued a statement apologizing to audiences in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam languages for the movie's shortcomings. He expressed gratitude for the massive opening his film received but assured fans that his upcoming three films would be completed and released on time.

"It gives me immense happiness to know the amount of trust you all have in me , However, it pains me to inform you all that The Movie DID NOT have a Proper Multi Language Release across India Because of Contract/Content Delay Issues which also led to 350 Telugu Premier shows overseas being Cancelled," Nikhil said in a statemenet.

In an unusual move, the filmmakers decided to release Spy quietly on Thursday on Amazon Prime Video without much promotion or fanfare.

Apart from Nikhil Siddharth, the movie also features Iswarya Menon, Sanya Thakur, and Abhinav Gomatam in pivotal roles.
