The creator, director, and writer of 'Squid Game,' Hwang Dong-hyuk, recently talked about announced what fans can expect from the show's upcoming sophomore season. He confirmed the comeback of two major characters for the second season of the Korean dystopian drama.
According to Deadline, Hwang said, "Definitely Gi-hun. He'll be back, and I'm sure the Front Man will as well." There were several speculations that they will return in the new set of episodes of the show for quite some time now but Hwang confirmed it only recently.
Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, is the protagonist of the Squid Game, who survives a series of deadly children's games, and whose return is tormented at the end of the first season. "I hope that it ends up working like 'Squid Game', director Hwang Dong Hyuk said when asked for more information about the series.
Finally, Hwang Dong Hyuk also commented on his upcoming film, 'Killing Old People Club,' saying, "For this project and future projects, we must consider political polarisation, cultural differences, current environmental and climate change. In the future, I will continue to monitor and critique these themes and integrate them into my work."
Park Hae Soo, who played Cho Sang-woo in the hit drama, spoke about his character as well. "I confronted the persona without having thought of him as an antagonist from the beginning," he said, adding that he is actually a protagonist who people see in their daily lives but was impacted by his 'circumstances and surroundings'.
Season two of Squid Games is expected to premiere on Netflix by the later part of 2024, according to director Hwang Dong Hyuk. But the official release date is yet to be announced.
