Netflix's most-watched show Squid Game is coming for season 2 and things already look messier and more conniving. Following the recent confirmation by the streaming giant, show creator and its chief brain force Hwang Dong-hyuk shared a special message with his fans through Twitter. Thanking the fans across the globe for the stellar reception of his show, which took 12 years to come to be, Dong-hyuk also divulged a few jaw-dropping insights into the upcoming show. In the upcoming season, fans will be introduced to a new character called Cheol-su who, interestingly, happens to be the killer doll Young-hee's boyfriend!

For the uninitiated, season 1 of Squid Game includes a rather creepy character called The Doll a.k.a Young-hee, a giant motion-sensing animatronic doll that eliminates erring contestants during the Red Light, Green Light game. The origins of Young-hee are said to date to the 1970s when a character of the same name appeared on the covers of Korean textbooks titled Chulsoo & Young-hee. Chulsoo (spelled "Cheol-su" by Squid Game makers), the other half of this endearing kid couple, will be introduced to fans in Squid Game Season 2, thus making things creepier and more fascinating. According to a Twitter user, Cheol happens to be Young-hee's brother in the source textbooks but the showrunners will present him as her boyfriend in Season 2.

The other major call-backs in the upcoming season will be Seong Gihun (played by Lee Jung-jae) and Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), with the man in the suit with ddakji too potentially making a return. The show follows a massive group of desperate, debt-ridden contestants who are lured into a tournament by the promise of a massive cash prize at the end of it. However, unbeknownst to them, the stakes involve losing their lives should they make one false move during the many stages of the sinister tournament. Season 1 of Squid Game amassed over 111 million viewers in the first month alone to become the most-watched show in Netflix's history. Season 2 is expected to come out at the end of July.

On the other hand, Hwang Dong-hyuk is reportedly developing a Squid Game spin-off titled The Best Show on the Planet which will fictionalize his own experiences of creating the show and dealing with its eventual blockbuster success. Dong-hyuk is also working on a film titled Killing Old People Club, an adaptation of Italian author Umberto Eco's book.
