Squid Game season 3 continues to trend as people call out the ending of the popular Korean show featuring Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun in the lead roles. However, director Hwang Dong-hyuk has now confirmed that the show's ending was rather changed as the show progressed. The initial ending was completely different than what was served.

Hwang Dong-hyuk confirms Squid Game 3 had a different ending

Speaking to Variety, Hwang said, "When I had a vague idea of what I wanted to do in Seasons 2 and 3, I had a different ending in mind. But while writing the characters and shaping Gi-hun’s story, I realised this should not be the way it ends. The new ending made more sense emotionally and was better for his character."

As per the original Squid Game 3 ending, Gi-hun aka Player 456 was not supposed to save the baby. Like was originally expected, he would have survived the game twice if that ended up being the original ending of the show. However, the filmmaker felt that the ending which is now part of the show made more sense and thus, this was chosen as the end to Gi-hun's story on Squid Game season 3. "It was a very drastic change from my first idea to what ended up being the final story," the maker confirmed.

One of the big highlights of Squid Game 3 was when Frontman suggested Gi-hun to kill every player to save himself and Player 222's baby. Years ago, the Frontman killed every player himself, and so, he thought Gi-hun would do the same. While considering it and putting a knife on another player's neck, Gi-hun saw a vision of Sae-byeok (played by Jung Ho-yeon), his ally from Season 1. "You’re not that kind of person," she said. These words brought Gi-hun back to his senses, and thus, he did not behave like the Frontman at all.
