It's ironic that at a crucial time when the big names from the Telugu film industry are expected to lead from the front and help theatres bounce back to action, it's the small-budget and medium-budget filmmakers who're showing the way forward. Narasimhapuram, Satyadev's Thimmarusu are among the first bunch of films scheduled to hit theatres on July 23 and 30 respectively. Now, it's Raaja Vaaru Raani Vaaru actor Kiran Abbavaram's SR Kalyana Mandapam, directed by Sridhar Chotu, which will release in theatres on August 6.

A new stylish teaser of SR Kalyana Mandapam was released on Wednesday commemorating the lead actor Kiran Abbavaram's birthday. Unlike his debut film where he played a timid, shy boy who's scared to propose to his love interest, his second release depicts him in a massier avatar with confident body language. The teaser features a verbal duel between an elderly man and Kiran where the former chides the youngster for his reckless behaviour and he gives him back a mouthful later. The wordplay is certainly catchy. Sai Kumar, Srikanth Aiyyengar, Tulasi and Tanikella Bharani play other important roles in the mass entertainer.

Kiran, beyond playing the lead, has also written the story and screenplay for SR Kalyana Mandapam. Priyanka Jawalkar pairs alongside the one-film old actor in the same. The film has peppy music by RX 100-fame Chaitan Bharadwaj. The success of films like Uppena, Jathi Ratnalu, Naandhi, 2021 has already proved that star power is no longer the sole criteria to succeed at the box office. While big films like Narappa, Drushyam 2, Maestro may make merry on OTT, the void of a big star film at the theatres may give the smaller films with strong content a greater chance to draw crowds to theatres.
