Sreeleela’s film with G Janardhan Reddy’s son Kireeti finally gets a release date

It was in March 2022 that politician and mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy launched his son Kireeti’s debut film, a pan-India project called Junior, directed by Radhakrishna Reddy, who made Mayabazar 2016 for the late Puneeth Rajkumar’s banner, which would pair the young actor with Sreeleela. What was interesting about the film was that it was also meant to be the comeback vehicle of Genelia Deshmukh, who, at the time had been away from cinema for about a decade.

Junior’s delay in the making has meant that Aamir Khan will now have the distinction of bringing her back with Sitaare Zamen Par, which releases in theatres on June 20, 2025. Turns out, Junior also has a release date lined up, so Genelia will have two films out in quick succession. Earlier today, it was revealed that Junior has zeroed in on its release date; it will hit theatres worldwide in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi on July 18, 2025. The film had initially been launched as a Kannada-Telugu bilingual by producer Sai Korrapati of Vaaraahi Chalana Chitram.

The film also stars V Ravichandran in a pivotal role, with Genelia playing Kireeti’s sister, a role she’d said she took up because the brother-sister bond seemed interesting. The film’s technical team also includes big names, including Devi Sri Prasad for the music, Peter Hein for action and Baahubali fame KK Senthil Kumar behind the camera.

Junior will bring Sreeleela back to Kannada cinema. The actress was last seen in 2022’s By Two Love , opposite Dhanveerrah. She has, since, established herself as a star in Telugu cinema, after her debut with Pelli SandaD, with films like Skanda, Bhagavanth Kesari, Guntur Kaaram and Robinhood , among others. She is set to make her Bollywood debut shortly, opposite Kartik Aaryan, with a Tamil launch also on the cards with Parashakti, directed by Sudha Kongra.
