Noted poet Souvik Bandyopadhyay passed away on January 21. He was a popular poet of this time. Souvik had a cerebral attack. He was admitted to a private hospital in south Kolkata. Bengali readers as well as Tollywood mourn his death.

Always a jovial person, Souvik declared a few days back ‘Suparna, winter has come, I will sleep for months.’ But no one thought that these words would be prophetic. He had a cerebral attack four days back and was admitted to the hospital. Many celebrities expressed concern about his condition. Srijato, Srijit, and others posted wishing for his recovery. Everyone hoped that Souvik would recover.

The news of his demise was spread on social media on Saturday evening. Srijato, Srilekha Mitra, and Sujoy Prasad Chattopadhyay, among others, wrote messages and expressed mourning.

Sujoy Prasad said, “Now I stop posting pictures. You will not joke with me. Who will affectionately call me Khoka, Souvik Bandyopadhyay?”

Srilekha Mitra could not believe that Souvik was no more. She wrote on Facebook, “What happened to Souvik?” Srijato was hurt by his friend’s demise. He wrote some lines about Souvik, and also posted lines from Sankha Ghosh’s poem. He wrote, “Nothing in this world is more sloth and heavier than a friend’s demise. Nothing is more stagnant than mourning.”
