It was a sad day for Kumkum Bhagya fans when they found out that the show’s lead stars Sriti Jha and Shabir Ahluwalia had decided to bid adieu to the series. The actress, who played Pragya on the show, recently opened up about her position to exit the popular soap.
In conversation with Hindustan Times, the actress revealed that the main reason she and co-star Ahluwalia left was for the well-being of the show itself. Jha spoke of how the story ‘had’ to move on, and revealed that she was still in touch with the show’s team despite her exit. She expressed her elation at seeing the show still do well and said that it was ‘amazing’ to see it happen. “The story needed to move on, and it's moved on beautifully”, she said.
Jha also spoke of how she was very close to the people who are working on the show right now. She added that she had ‘gained’ a lot out of the show and that her exit did not mean there was any loss for her.
Jha and Ahluwalia, who essay the roles of Pragya and Abhishek respectively, had left the show last year. Their characters were written off in a way that involved both of them entering into a coma after an accident. Mugdha Chaphekar and Krishna Kaul currently star as the main leads in Kumkum Bhagya, which is available to stream on ZEE5.
Jha will next be seen as a contestant on the Rohit Shetty hosted adventure reality show, Khatron Ke Khiladi 12. The show, which is currently being filmed in Cape Town, South Africa, will premiere on July 2, and can be watched on Colors TV and Voot.
