Stephanie Beatriz’s animated feature Encanto to release on Disney+ Hotstar this month

Disney’s Encanto is set to bring the magic to OTT. It was announced that the animated fantasy film will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on December 24.

The announcement was made by the streaming giant on their official social media handles. The post also featured a clip of a song from the film, featuring the character of Isabela Madrigal, voiced by Diane Guerrero of Orange Is the New Black fame.

Set in Colombia, the film revolves around the story of the Madrigal family, almost all of whom were blessed with some kind of magical ability. One among them, a young woman named Mirabel, is the only one who seems to possess no powers at all.

But when strange events threaten to have the family’s magical abilities taken away from them, it falls down to Mirabel to safeguard her loved ones' powers, before it is too late.

Encanto's voice cast is led by Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz. The film also features John Leguizamo, María Cecilia Botero,Guerrero, Jessica Darrow, Angie Cepeda and Wilmer Valderrama.

The animated film is directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush. The filmmaking duo are popular for helming Disney’s Academy Award winning animated feature, Zootopia.

Encanto’s soundtrack features songs written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who had previously also written songs for Disney’s Moana. His work on the latter had gained him an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.

The upcoming film is Produced and distributed by Walt Disney Animation Studios.
