Stephanie Meyer's 'Twilight' Saga to get a TV adaptation! Here's what we know

The Twilight saga, which was adapted as a film series that successfully made global stars of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, is all set to be adapted for the small screen. As reported exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter, the TV treatment of Stephanie Meyer's best-selling books is currently in the works and is expected to take off at the earliest.

The TV adaptation is still very much in its nascent stage but Lionsgate Television, the studio developing the project, is aiming at bringing a writer on board to direct the series in a particular manner. There isn't a particular streaming platform or network zeroed in either at this moment. 

Stephanie Meyer first introduced the world to the now-famous characters Bella Swan and Edward Cullen in the 2005 novel Twilight. The book explored the first encounter of the two characters which soon transforms into love and despite all the mixed reviews that it received, Twilight, the novel, became a New York Times Bestseller within a short period of its release. It would be followed by three other best-selling novels in the form of New Moon Eclipse and Breaking Dawn to collectively be referred to as the Twilight Saga. The book series is said to have sold more than 160 million copies with translations in over 35 languages to date.

Following the thumping success across the world, the publishers brought out a new edition titled Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined in 2015 which, in essence, was a retelling of the original story with the genders of two main characters swapped (as Beau Swan and Edythe Cullen). In 2020, Meyer wrote and released a companion Twilight novel called Midnight Sun.

The film franchise based on the novels comprises five adaptations of the first four novels (Twilight to Breaking Dawn) with Breaking Dawn warranting a two-part film adaptation. A mighty successful franchise. The Twilight Saga film series has grossed close to $3.4 billion to date.
