STR 49: Simbu and Santhanam join hands after a long time; fans eager to watch the hilarious duo onscreen

Silambarasan, who is currently expecting the release of his film Thug Life with Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, had announced a slew of projects recently, one of them being STR 49 helmed by Parking director Ramkumar Balakrishnan. In the latest, Santhanam has joined the cast of the film, making the much-awaited combination of Simbu and Santhanam finally onscreen together.

Maanaadu fame Silambarasan had been missing in action for sometime now. However, only recently, the actor had announced three projects, including STR 49, which is directed by Ramkumar Balakrishnan in his sophomore directorial after Parking. Actor Kayadu Lohar who recently won hearts with her performance in Dragon, has been cast as the female lead.

On Wednesday, the makers announced that actor-comedian Santhanam will be joining the cast, marking the much-awaited combination back onscreen. It is to be noted that it was Silambarasan who had introduced Santhanam to big screens with the 2004 film Manmadhan. Until then, Santhanam had appeared in television shows and known for his spoof comedy sketches. Fans are eagerly expecting Simbu-Santhanam pairing onscreen once again.

STR 49 is produced by Aakash Baskaran under Dawn Pictures banner, with music by Sai Abhyankkar. A release date is yet to be announced.

Where to watch Simbu-Santhanam films on OTT?

Simbu introduced Santhanam to big screens with his film Manmadhan , co-starring Jyotika, in 2004. It is about a serial killer who targets young girls. The duo went on to pair up in films such as Vallavan which became a smasher hit, Vaanam , in which Santhanam’s comedy track was much talked about and Osthe , a remake of Salman Khan-starrer Dabangg. All these films are available for streaming on OTTplay Premium.

Meanwhile, Santhanam’s next film DD Next Level is gearing up for release in theatres on May 16.
