Subham is Samantha Ruth Prabhu's latest film, which began its journey with positive word of mouth. The makers were so confident in the product that they held paid premieres two days ahead of its official release. Encouraged by the early buzz, they expected the horror comedy to perform well at the box office. However, that didn’t happen, as the film collected only ₹63 lakhs on day one.
The Theri star, Samantha, has been leading from the front, promoting the film aggressively. This effort paid off slightly, as Subham earned ₹80 lakhs on its second day. With that, the film's total net collection has reached ₹1.5 crore. Still, these numbers are disappointing, and the film’s only hope lies in Sunday’s collections, given it’s a holiday. Once the weekdays begin, Subham is expected to see a sharp drop in occupancy.
Already, the film is being pulled from several screens, which are now being allocated to #Single, starring Samajavaragamana fame Sree Vishnu. That film, which was also released on May 9, 2025, has shown strong growth on day two and shows no signs of slowing down.
Samantha was recently in Vijayawada for promotions and will interact with the press to expand the film’s reach. Subham is directed by Praveen Kandregula, who previously made Cinema Bandi. The film features mostly newcomers, with a cameo by Samantha herself.
The story revolves around three friends whose wives become possessed while watching a particular TV show at 9 PM. What lies behind this mysterious phenomenon is revealed engagingly. The film’s message and the comedy involving family dynamics have been appreciated by audiences.
Subham is best suited for OTT and is expected to receive more love when it premieres on a streaming platform. Amazon Prime has bagged the OTT rights to the film and will stream the film in the first week of June 2025. For now, the box office performance remains underwhelming. We’ll have to wait and see how much it can earn by the end of its theatrical run. Stay tuned for more updates.
