Subhrajit Mitra, whose Avijatrik bagged the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali at the 68th National Film Awards, may direct a Hindi feature film. According to recent reports, if all goes well, he will be the newest Bengali director to work on a National turf. If reports are to be believed, the period film will delve into historical events.

As per reports, the production house involved in inviting Subhrajit has worked with stalwarts like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, and others. When asked, the Bengali director said that it is still too early to comment on the matter. “Everything is in the primary stage and there is no guarantee on anything. Such things take a lot of time,” he added.

Meanwhile, the speculation is a number of scripts delving into historical events have been submitted to the production house. Those events include the Battle of Plassey, the Maurya dynasty, and others. Subhrajit said that he was offered a national project even during the time of his film, Avijatrik, which was co-produced by Madhur Bhandarkar. He stated that in such cases, the script is selected first and then they decide on the cast and the crew.

Subhrajit is currently busy with the post-production of Devi Chowdhurani which features Srabanti Chatterjee, Prosenjit Chatterjee, and others. The director said that since this is a film of a huge scale he is involved in the project completely. He refused to rush. Based on Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel, Srabanti plays the bandit queen of Bengal Devi Chowdhurani in this ambitious project. Prosenjit plays Bhavani Pathak.
