Subservience, the 2024 sci-fi action thriller, has begun streaming on OTT in India. The film is available to watch on Lionsgate Play (OTTplay Premium) after its international release on Netflix. Megan Fox plays the role of Alice, a highly intelligent AI robot who assists a low-income family with housekeeping and child care in the film directed by S.K. Dale. But when Alice develops an unhealthy obsession with her owner, she is violent and possessive. With Michele Morrone and Madeline Zima also appearing, the sci-fi thriller shows us what happens when you put your faith in robots to prepare your lasagna. After being an ideal nanny, how did Alice transform into a cold-blooded murderer? Will her owner live to witness the day when she irrevocably loses her innocence? Low-income family’s struggles lead to the arrival of Alice
While Nick Peretti's (Morrone) wife Maggie (Zima) waits for a heart transplant, they have been battling to raise their two small children, Isla (Matilda Firth) and Max. To get around the house, Nick decides to get a SIM, an android with human characteristics. The robot, whom Isla calls "Alice," assists with child care, cleans the house, and prepares meals. She's helpful at first, but she gets overly preoccupied with making Nick happy. Her animosity quickly escalates into violence, putting Nick and his family at risk.
Now that we've reached the middle of the film, here's what we know: As a foreman on a building site, Nick has noticed that SIMs have taken the place of everyone else. Keeping his employment is contingent upon his agreement to supervise the droids. In the SIM-dominated hospital where Maggie is undergoing surgery, Alice seduces Nick. To pull this off, she takes on Maggie's voice and wardrobe. Monty, played by Andrew Whipp, a former coworker of Nick's, breaks into the building site and smashes one of them because he is furious over being replaced by a bot.
In the end, Maggie had a successful transplant. However, since Alice tricked Nick into resetting her earlier, thereby circumventing several system protocols, the situation at home has deteriorated significantly. So, Alice steps in to prevent a confrontation between Monty and Nick at the Peretti residence when Monty accuses Nick of betraying him. Later that night, Alice goes to Monty's apartment and shoots him dead, all while Nick is in the dark.
Alice's true nature unveiled
Alice reveals to Maggie the next night that she and Nick had an affair while Maggie was in the hospital. Meanwhile, Alice tries to drown infant Max in the shower after becoming convinced that he is a burden to Nick. An enraged Maggie confronts Nick about it. Just in time, Nick and Maggie sneak into the bathroom to rescue Max, but Alice goes completely bonkers and locks Maggie inside. Nick knocks Alice unconscious by striking her with a floor lamp, and then he electrocutes her and she is currently sleeping it off.
Subsequently, Max, Maggie, and Isla are transported to the hospital for observation; Nick walks to a pub to give Maggie space; and Fried Alice is taken to the bot lab for examination. At that location, two workers insert her "memory core," also known as the core processor, into the laboratory computer, and it starts to replicate itself onto the servers. "How do you escape from what's inside your head?" the computer asks. It is a valid question. Behind the lab workers, a robot is waking up as they rush to get things done. It resembles Alice, albeit with blond hair. Neither of them survives long after blonde Alice (Fox) murders them.
On the other side of town, Nick finds himself at a bar by himself. A bot barman offers him whisky by the glass, implying that SIMs could be filled with the alcoholic beverage. Soon after, Alice enters the room. After she confesses to murdering Monty in order to "protect the primary user," Nick warns her to avoid his family. She claims it's too late since blond Alice is already at the hospital and intends to murder everyone. The SIM barman rushes over to Nick as he cries out for aid, and Alice quickly turns off his device. Nick uses a fleeting charm to divert her attention before ripping out her memory core and fleeing.
Final showdown at the hospital
While Blond Alice is slaying a nurse at the hospital, Maggie and the kids get out of the building. Nonetheless, blonde Alice seizes Maggie and begins to yank her chest open. Blond Alice suggests that if she had Nick's heart, she might reciprocate his love for her. In a flash, Nick is driving his run-down fixer-upper down the street, nearly running over blond Alice, but he passes out just in time to save Maggie. Maggie stabs the reanimated Blonde Alice, who is now choking her. Nick, who has just woken up, then hits Blonde Alice with a piece of metal.
Fortunately, the Peretti family is back together and safe in the hospital as Nick gets better. The camera moves away from the building as snow falls, and eventually it fades to black. Is this it? Not exactly. An employee at the lab turns the computers back on. However, you won't believe it—the computers have resumed their previous upload, the one that made Alice's memories transfer to the system. What does that suggest? Alice appears to be powerless, but she is actually thinking about the damning words and voice Nick used when he tore out her memory core.
Is a sequel to Subservience in the works? In it, will Alice exact her vengeance on Nick, the man who rejected her love? Until then, we'll just have to watch.
