Kannada movie star Sudeep has revealed the reason why he had to give the invitation to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi a miss. Some of the top names of Kannada cinema were hosted by the PM earlier this week at Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru. Actors Yash, Rishab Shetty, producers Ashwini Puneeth and Vijay Kirngadur and former Indian cricket players and Bengaluru-based entrepreneurs were among those high-profile guests who met the PM.

And Sudeep's lack of participation in the meeting raised eyebrows. Everyone wondered whether Sudeep was not invited to the meeting. However, the star himself has put all the murmurs to an end by addressing it directly in an interview.

Sudeep said it pained him to turn down the invitation to meet the PM but he had a strong and valid reason.

"I received the invitation to meet the PM. I'm really grateful for that. I received a call directly from the (PM) office. But, I was a little unwell at the time. And there was a serious protocol in place. What if I go there and I showed a high temperature? I wouldn't be allowed inside. So I called the person concerned and expressed my regret for not being able to go to the meeting. It's our good fortune to meet him and I am also happy about the invitation. We all respect him but unfortunately, I was not well," Sudeep told TV9 Kannada.

PM Modi was in Bengaluru to take part in the opening of the five-day areal show, Aero India. During his trip, he also met celebrities and high-achieving individuals from Karnataka.

Sudeep, meanwhile, is busy putting together the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), which will begin on February 18.
