Lately, the Tamil film industry has been witnessing a war of words between director Ameer and Green Studio producer KE Gnanavel Raja. The controversy stems from Ameer’s 2007 film Paruthiveeran, which marked actor Karthi’s acting debut. While speaking about the director, the producer made several allegations against him. Subsequently, Ameer issued a statement denying them. The latest person to be tangled in the issue is director Sudha Kongara.

Ameer-KE Gnanavel Raja controversy

For the uninitiated, Ameer first complained that Gnanavel was unable to support the film Paruthiveeran until its conclusion. Eventually, Ameer had to take over the movie. However, as the project neared completion, Ameer faced financial difficulties, leading to the film reverting to Gnanavel. Since the movie’s release, the director and the producer have been accusing each other regarding payment issues. Sixteen years after the film’s release, Ameer and Gnanavel have not been able to reach an agreement concerning the ownership of the Karthi starrer.

M Sasikumar and Samuthirakani take a stance on the contentious issue

Many celebrities have been taking sides in the ongoing controversy, with actors such as M Sasikumar and Samuthirakani expressing their solidarity with Ameer on the matter. Both the actors have expressed their views through anecdotes on their social media pages.

Sudha Kongara criticised Ameer’s filmmaking in Raam, claims Gnanavel

Meanwhile, in a recent interview, Gnanavel revealed that when Ameer’s movie Raam was released, director Sudha Kongara had criticised the making of the film. “I went to watch the movie Raam along with director Sudha Kongara and actor Karthi. Sudha made a remark on his style of filmmaking, while Karthi felt 50-50 about the movie.”

Sudha Kongara shares her thoughts about Ameer

After the video clip went viral, Sudha took to social media to express her thoughts on the issue. The Irudhi Suttru director elaborated, “On February 2, 2016, I got a call from Ameer anna. I was driving outside Prasad Studios. I remember the exact moment because he was one of the first and few from the industry to call and praise me for Irudhi Suttru. I just told him one thing then: my Madhi is inspired by Muthazhagu. I went on and on about one of the greatest female characters written by a man! I had made both the actresses who played Madhi and later Bommi watch Paruthiveeran as a reference. And this is my homage to a master filmmaker of Tamil cinema. This is all I have to say.”

Although Sudha did not mention Gnanavel’s name in the note, netizens have been discussing the director’s stance on the ongoing controversy. Some have even called her out for criticising Ameer’s film Raam, which she had allegedly criticised.
