Rajarshi Dey's upcoming film Maya will have Sudipta Banerjee and Sayantoni Guhathakurta in prominent roles. The actors have started shooting for the film.

The details of the story are not disclosed yet, but on a surface level, the story is centred on Maya. Rafiath Rashid Mithila (Srijit Mukherji’s wife), will be seen playing the titular role of Maya. Joining the cast is an interesting line-up of actors, namely Gaurav Chakrabarty, Tanushree Chakraborty, Koneenica Banerjee, Gourab Chatterjee, Rahul, among others.

In a statement to the Times of India, Sudipta revealed the name of the character she plays in the film. She plays Mahi, a victim of human trafficking, who later on becemes a bar dancer.

The shooting schedule started at a Rajbari in Bali in early July. This is the second time that Sudipta is working with the Birpurush director. She added that working with Rajarshi was a joy because knew her capabilities more than herself.

Sudipta is popular in Bengali mega serials and can be seen currently in the Star Jalsha’s Gramer Rani Binapani.

The film marks Sayantani Guhathakurta’s return to film after two years. In a statement to Entertainment Times, she said that while the shoot was hectic, it was refreshing all the same and the experience was ‘satisfying and reassuring.’

Speaking on her character, she said that she will essay the role of a ‘simple girl’ Chumki, who takes to negative shades due to the turn of circumstances in her life.

She went on to add that playing Chumki was challenging for her as in real life, she is poles apart from the character. But at the helm of it, she was glad to be on the shoot. “After two back-to-back lockdowns, it felt like I would never be able to go back to the sets and act,” she said because many projects were getting shelved.

But being back on sets was a different high that did away with all the negative thoughts. Sayantoni is currently on a break after 10 days of a continuous shooting schedule.
