Kahaani's many themes

In 2012, Kahaani was released as a thriller film crafted and directed by Sujoy Ghosh. Vidya Balan stars as Vidya Bagchi, a pregnant wife seeking her missing husband amidst Kolkata's bustling Durga Puja festivities. She receives assistance from Rana Sinha, an assistant sub-inspector played by Parambrata Chatterjee, and Inspector General A. Khan, portrayed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Despite its modest budget of ₹80 million, Kahaani explores themes of women's empowerment and the complexities of motherhood in India's often male-centric society. The film's global release on March 9, 2012, was met with financial success, grossing ₹1.04 billion worldwide within 50 days. Notably, the film won several awards, including three National Film Awards.
