The makers of the upcoming Malayalam film, Sumathi Valavu, has dropped an update on its theatrical release today (July 14). The horror thriller, which stars Arjun Ashokan in lead role, will hit the big screen on August 1.

The movie, which was slated to have a theatrical premiere in May, was postponed due to unknown reasons. It will now have a big screen debut with Kathir and Hakkim Shajahan's Meesha. This latest update was revealed by the makers through a new poster. It has also been confirmed that Sumathi Valavu has been bankrolled by Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Sree Gokulam Movies.

Sumathi Valavu plot and cast details
According to previous reports, the film is based in part on the real story of Sumathi Valavu, the notorious site in Trivandrum district. The film is based on a haunting folktale from this region and is set in the 1990s. It is said that this mysterious place is being guarded by the soul of Sumathi, a pregnant Tamil woman, according to a motion poster that the directors previously posted. Thus, the location is referred to as Sumathi Valavu.
Abhilash Pillai wrote the script for the horror comedy, which is directed by Vishnu Sasi Shankar. JioHotstar and OTTplay Premium are currently streaming Malikappuram, which was formerly directed by Vishnu. The camera work for the project was handled by P V Shankar, who worked on the Tamil film Ratsasan, which starred Amala Paul and Vishnu Vishal. The original score and songs for the movie are composed by Ranjin Raj.
Balu Varghese, Gokul Suresh, Saiju Kurup, Malavika Manoj, Niranj Maniyanpillai, Shyam Mohan and Siddharth Bharathan play important parts in Sumathi Valavu. The cast also includes Bobby Kurian, Manoj K U, Nandu, and Shravan Mukesh in supporting roles. In collaboration with Murali Kunnumpurath, Waterman Films LLP is also producing the Malayalam movie. In Palakkad, Sumathi Valavu's filming got underway in November 2024 and ended in January.
