Sumathi Valavu: Makers of Arjun Ashokan's horror comedy confirms a prequel; Deets here

The makers of the recent Malayalam film, Sumathi Valavu, have dropped an update on a second instalment today (August 9). It has been revealed that the horror comedy will have a prequel titled, 'Sumathi Valavu 2: The Origin'.

This announcement follows the horror comedy's successful theatrical debut on August 1 and the excellent reviews it received from viewers. The cast and crew of Sumathi Valavu shared the new update along with a new poster on social media. "While Sumathi Valavu continues its blockbuster reign at the box office, we’re turning the page to an even bigger chapter…Presenting the much-awaited second installment!," they wrote on Instagram. It is unclear if the same cast would have a part in the prequel.

Sumathi Valavu garnering positive feedback from audience

Along the border route named after Sumathi, an isolated town is haunted by her spirit. This ghost, who is also known as the village's troublemaker, has a big influence on Appu's life. As he and his loved ones experience strange things, the road's evil past and the mystery surrounding Sumathi are exposed. 

Based in part on a terrifying local folktale, the movie, which made over Rs 11 crore at the box office after more than a week of release, is based on the real story of Sumathi Valavu. Abhilash Pillai wrote the script for the horror comedy, which was directed by Vishnu Sasi Shankar. Vishnu's directorial debut, Malikappuram, is currently accessible for viewing on OTTplay Premium and JioHotstar. 

Balu Varghese, Gokul Suresh, Saiju Kurup, Malavika Manoj, Shivada, Gopika, Niranj Maniyanpillai, Siddharth Bharathan, Bobby Kurian, and Shravan Mukesh all play significant roles in Sumathi Valavu. Waterman Films LLP and Sree Gokulam Movies, in collaboration with Murali Kunnumpurath and Gokulam Gopalan, are producing this Malayalam movie. P V Shankar did get a few amazing shots for Sumathi Valavu, while Ranjin Raj's soundtrack adds some entertaining touches to the film.
