Fans of the slice-of-life series Wagle Ki Duniya - Nayi Peedhi Naye Kissey from Sony SAB (also on Sony LIV [OTTplay Premium]) still appreciate it because it shows the changing relationships between generations and the subtleties of middle-class life. An emotional turn occurs in the most recent plot point when the show delves into the nuanced relationship between parental worry and a child's developing desire for autonomy.

Sakhi’s big move sparks emotional reactions

Viewers have just witnessed Chinmayee Salvi's Sakhi make the monumental decision to leave the Wagle household and begin her independent life in Kharghar with her pals. Rajesh (Sumeet Raghvan) is overly anxious and overprotective, while Vandana (Pariva Pranati) is obviously distraught about her daughter venturing out into the world.

In the future episodes, Rajesh secretly sets up a CCTV camera outside Sakhi's flat since he can't stop worrying. A nearby robbery uncovers the concealed camera, transforming what began as a covert attempt to ensure Sakhi's safety into a complex issue. After Sakhi confronts her father about his lack of trust, the Wagle family has a heated debate about personal space and limits. Sakhi feels startled and deceived. Atharva, Sakhi's younger brother, gets in on the action as well, casting doubt on Rajesh's motives and making some very valid remarks regarding the need for personal space.

As a result of the intense emotional confrontation, Rajesh becomes overwhelmed with guilt and introspection, and he begins to cry as he remembers Sakhi's childhood and the wonderful times they spent together.

Sumeet Raghvan on the universal struggles of parenthood

This sequence really touched Raghvan deeply as a parent. Every parent may connect to Rajesh's emotions—fear and love—that drive his actions, which may appear intrusive at first. In their haste to shield our children from harm, they overlook the fact that they, too, require room to develop, to make mistakes, and to choose their path. Wagle Ki Duniya is great because it shows both sides of a conflict— the protective instincts of parents and the need for autonomy and trust on the part of children. As the story progresses, it begs the question: will the next generation grasp the gravity of their worries, and can parents ever learn to trust, let go, and provide a supportive hand from a safe distance? In Raghvan's opinion, that is the path that every family is currently following, coming to terms with the fact that each generation must compromise.

Is it possible that Sakhi will come to terms with her father's true goals and help them overcome their increasing distance? On the other hand, may Rajesh's thoughtful but ill-advised behaviour further alienate the two?
