Sumo OTT release date: Where and when to stream Shiva’s sports comedy

Sumo, the recently released Tamil film starring actor Mirchi Shiva in the lead role, is all set to make its OTT debut. The sports comedy film, which revolves around a Japanese sumo, will begin streaming on SunNXT from Friday onwards, the streaming platform announced on social media on Thursday. Actor Mirchi Shiva, who is known for his films like Chennai 600028 and Tamizh Padam, recently starred in theTamil film Sumo. The sports comedy film released in theatres on April 25 after years of delay. Now, after the theatrical run, Sumo is gearing up for OTT release. It will premiere on SunNXT and OTTplay Premium on May 23.

Apart from Shiva, the film also stars actor Priya Anand, who earlier worked with Shiva in romantic comedy Vanakkam Chennai and heist comedy Kasethan Kadavulada. Directed by filmmaker SP Hosimin, Sumo is bankrolled by Ishari K Ganesh under the banner Vels Film International. Japanese sumo Yoshinori Tashiro plays the titular role along with VTV Ganesh, Chetan, Besant Ravi, Srinath, Yogi Babu and others as supporting characters.

What is Sumo about?

A sports comedy entertainer, Sumo revolves around a surfer who finds a sumo washed up on the shore. While the sumo does not know the local language and has an IQ of a child, it is up to the surfer to take care of him and send him back home, where he is a renowned sumo. The technical crew of the film includes music by Nivas K. Prasanna and Rajiv Menon cranking the camera. Praveen KL has handled the edits.
