On a cold and rainy day in Bengaluru, the atmosphere at a city hotel was quite hot and sizzling, what with Sunny Leone in town to launch her latest Kannada special number. The Bollywood siren, who had shot for her third Kannada song, Dingar Billi, a while ago, had flown in for the launch of the song and first press conference of the film, Champion. In a week packed with 7-8 Kannada film releases, it was also a day on which there were two press screenings scheduled to happen immediately after the Champion press conference at the multiplex adjacent to the venue Sunny was at.

Sunny, of course, reached late, which she attributed to a delay in her flight from Mumbai. But to her credit then, the actress got ready for the event in record time. Speaking at the event after the song was released, Sunny said, “Dingar Billi is one of my favourite songs. Not only did I love this song, but my kids did too. For weeks, my kids were singing ‘Dingar Billi’ and running through the house. Every time I would rehearse for the song, my children would also match steps with me. One day I will release that video, you will love it.”

Dingar Billi, composed by Ajaneesh B Loknath, has been sung by Shashank Sheshagiri and Indu Nagaraj and features Sunny along with the film’s debutant protagonist, Sachin Dhanpal. The song has been choreographed by Imran Sardhariya. Kannada director Prem was the first to bring Sunny to Sandalwood, for the song Seshamma in his film DK, followed by Indrajit Lankesh for Luv U Alia’s Kamakshi.

Champion has been directed by Shahuraj Shinde, who, unfortunately, passed away during the Covid pandemic. The film pairs Sachin with Aditi Prabhudeva and has Devaraj, Avinash, Rangayana Raghu, and Chikkanna, among others on its cast. The film was earlier announced as a Kannada-Marathi bilingual, but there’s been no word on a Marathi version.
