It's unusual for veteran actors who have played a wide range of characters throughout their careers to say that a particular character was completely unique to them and that they had never had the opportunity to play the same character before.

This is how Supriya Pathak, who plays Home Shanti in Disney+ Hotstar's new slice-of-life series, describes her character. The actress is well-known for her comic timing in a variety of roles, but no one has ever seen her in the role of a teacher. In her own words, the versatile performer describes what it was like to play Sarla in the series.

Supriya stated in a statement that her character, Sarla, is a strong lady, a teacher, and a vice principal. She is a teacher with a lot of self-control, and she is unlike any other character the actor has played because she has never played a teacher before. Sarla is a self-aware individual who is more capable of handling situations and caring for the entire family. She loves her family in her own unique way, but she is also strict.

Home Shanti offers viewers a warm hug and follows the journey of a middle-class Dehradun family, telling a moving story that is universal yet personal to everyone who strives to create their own home, with its storyline featuring the lovably chaotic lives of Umesh Joshi, a comedic Hindi newspaper columnist, his stoic retired government school vice-principal wife, Sarla Joshi, and their 22- and 16-year-old daughters, Jigyasa and Vidyasa, Home Shanti is a lighthearted film about the bond between parents and children and how it strengthens in the face of adversity.

Aakanksha Dua's slice-of-life drama centres on the Joshi family's long-held desire to become first-time homeowners. Both Chakori Dwivedi and Poojan Chhabra, both newcomers to the industry, play the new generation of Joshis. The script was written by Akshay Asthana, Aakanksha Dua, Nidhi Bisht, Mayank Pandey, Nikhil Sachan, and Saurabh Khanna. Posham Pa Pictures' production will debut the series on Disney+ Hotstar on May 6.
