Suresh Gopi is arguably the actor who is most synonymous with police characters in Malayalam, and after a huge gap, the veteran star will once again be seen donning the khaki and boots for Joshiy’s upcoming film Paappan , which is scripted by RJ Shaan.
The star recently completed dubbing for the film, which has an ensemble cast featuring Neeta Pillai, Gokul Suresh, Nyla Usha and Kaniha in pivotal roles. The movie, which went on floors last year, was shot in four schedules and wrapped up production earlier this year.
Paappan has Suresh Gopi playing a circle inspector who comes out of his voluntary retirement to take up a case. Neeta Pillai plays his daughter in the movie, which has the actor essaying two phases of his character’s life.
Unlike his previous movies as a police officer such as Commissioner and FIR, Paappan delves more into the psyche of the person and his relationships. It’s touted to be a slow-burn thriller that uses the actor’s age effectively to tell the story. However, it will also have it’s ‘mass’ moments. The film is currently slated to release in theatres on April 15, 2022.
This will also be Suresh Gopi’s second release since the pandemic. He was part of Nithin Renji Panicker’s Kaaval , which hit theatres last year and is currently streaming on Netflix. The actor also played two phases of his character’s life in the film, which also had Renji Panicker, Suresh Krishna, Evan Anil, Rachel David and Kichu Tellus.
Meanwhile, Suresh Gopi is also part of Mathew Thomas Plammoottil’s Ottakomban. He is next expected to star in Jibu Jacob’s directorial which is also rumoured to have Manju Warrier as part of the cast. Manju and Suresh Gopi had teamed up last in Pathram in 1999.
