Last month on Suresh Gopi’s birthday, director Jayaraj made an unexpected but hugely welcome announcement about the sequel of his cult hit Highway. Now, the veteran actor has revealed more about the film and if it will have him reprise the character of RAW officer Mahesh Aravind aka Sreedhar Prasad.

Talking about Highway 2 at a recent press meet during the promotions of his upcoming movie Paappan, Suresh Gopi said that the Jayaraj directorial will be shot in seven states.

“It will showcase the development of the country through its highways that include 14, 12 and 6 lanes,” he said. “However, it’s not a sequel and so you won’t see Sreedhar Prasad in the film, but you would see a different Suresh Gopi in the movie. I can’t reveal whether he is the protagonist or the antagonist.”

Further on the film’s plot, the veteran superstar said, “It’s based on a murder that happened in Vyttila that was projected as a suicide. That has been used as the thread of the film to expand the revenge spree of the antagonist in these highways. That’s also the reason for the title.”

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Jayaraj had said that the script of the movie had been completed before the pandemic, but the film had been put on hold as it had to be shot across several States. “It will be a big budget, pan-Indian film as that’s how most such projects are being approached now. It will also be a commercial, mainstream movie that I will be doing after a long time,” he said, adding that the film will have cast members from different languages.

Highway 2 will go on floors by August-September if Suresh Gopi doesn’t begin shooting for Mathew Thomas’ Ottakomban by then. The actor has also signed up another film, based on a true incident, that has Parvathy Thiruvothu and Anupama Parameswaran in the lead.
