In the first half of July, 11 Malayalam films are scheduled to hit theatres. Among them are three big releases – Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Kaduva, Suresh Gopi’s Paappan and Anoop Menon’s Padma and the latter two will clash in theatres on July 15.

While the makers of Paappan, which is a crime drama, are yet to officially announce its release date, theatres are getting ready for the film’s release on July 15, a week after Prithviraj’s Kaduva hit the cinema halls. The Suresh Gopi-starrer is among his biggest releases after his comeback, with him teaming up with hit filmmaker Joshiy for the movie.

Paappan, which is scripted by RJ Shaan, has Suresh Gopi playing a police officer again. The movie will have him in two phases of his character’s life – as a firebrand cop and as a retired man, who is forced into investigating a case.

Poomaram fame Neeta Pillai plays the female protagonist in the movie. She appears as a cop and the daughter of Suresh Gopi’s character Abraham Mathew Mathan. Shaan had previously told us that the film will explore the relationship between father-daughter duo in detail in the movie, which also has the superstar sharing screen space with his son Gokul for the first time. Asha Sharath, Nyla Usha and Kaniha are also part of Paappan.

Meanwhile, Padma will mark the debut directorial of Anoop Menon. Though the actor-scriptwriter had previously helmed King Fish, the film is yet to hit theatres. The family entertainer has National Award-winner Surabhi Lakshmi playing the titular character while Anoop appears as her husband in the film, which is also scripted by the actor-director. The film revolves around Padma’s struggles to fit into her husband’s cosmopolitan world after her wedding.

Padma, which had completed its shoot last year, also has Shruthi Rajanikanth, Zian Sreekanth and Ambi Neenasam in pivotal roles.
