The hit political thriller Maanaadu, starring Simbu a.k.a Silambarasan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, SJ Suryah, YG Mahendran and SA Chandrasekhar in pivotal roles is spreading its wings to other languages. The Tamil film directed by Venkat Prabhu hit theatres on November 25 and turned out to be a major success, impressing critics and audiences alike. The terrific screenplay, performances and slick treatment drew praise from all corners. It was about time that the story, which certainly has a universal appeal, attracted interest from producers across other industries.
Now, a major Telugu production house, Suresh Productions, has grabbed hold of Maanaadu's dubbing rights for the Telugu version besides acquiring the remake rights across all Indian languages. The news was confirmed through their social media handle earlier today. Earlier, the dubbed version of Maanadu, The Loop, was slated to hit theatres on the same day as the Tamil version but was postponed owing to reasons best known to the makers. Even now, Suresh Productions has only confirmed that they hold the dubbing rights in Telugu.
Will this news halt all rumours of a possible Telugu remake of Maanaadu? Will Rana Daggubati or Venkatesh star in any of the versions? Only time shall confirm the same, as the statement quite vaguely puts it that Suresh Productions has 'remake rights in all Indian languages' and 'Telugu dubbing rights' separately. Maanadu is currently streaming on SonyLIV. The film has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and also features Premgi Amaren, Karunakaran, Subbu Panchu among others. Cinematographed by Richard M. Nathan, Maanadu was produced by Suresh Kamatchi and Deepan Boopathy.
