Tamil superstar Suriya seems to be on a signing spree. The latest industry buzz is that he will soon join hands with director Ravikumar of Ayalaan fame . However, an official confirmation is awaited. Reports have it that the said project is a science-fiction and the talks are in the very early stages.
Ravikumar's tryst with science-fiction genre
Ravikumar is trying to carve a niche for himself by following his penchant for science-fiction movies. He made his debut as a director with the 2015 movie Indru Netru Naalai, which dealt with the concept of time travel. After years of struggle, he managed to complete an alien invasion drama with Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role.
Even though Ayalaan went on the floors in 2018, it was only completed recently owing to budget constraints. Thanks to Sivakarthikeyan's steadfast belief in Ravikumar's vision, he stuck by the movie for years. He even went so far as giving up his salary to facilitate the completion of the movie.
Ayalaan revolves around an alien stranded in Chennai during its Earth exploration gone wrong. The extraterrestrial being finds allies in a group of cheerful individuals as it navigates the challenges of the city, aiming to return safely to its home planet. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film resonated with family audiences and performed well at the box office, grossing over Rs 75 crore worldwide. Ayalaan is currently available for streaming on SunNXT.
Suriya's upcoming movies
Meanwhile, Suriya is now getting ready to move on to his next projects. He dedicated a significant amount of time to his upcoming movie Kanguva. Written and directed by Siva, Kanguva is said to be the costliest production in Suriya's career. It's said that the total budget of Kanguva is estimated to be three times bigger than Suriya's biggest commercial hit.
Kanguva is now in post-production and is expected to hit the screens later this year. Next, Suriya will join the sets of Sudha Prasad's movie, which is tentatively titled Suriya 43. He is also reportedly in talks with Bollywood director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra for a mythological movie titled Karna. His movie Vaadi Vaasal with director Vetrimaaran is in pre-production.
