There's good news for Karthi fans. As Karthi's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan gears up for release tomorrow, Suriya launched the teaser of Karthi's Diwai release, Sardar. The film, directed by PS Mithran, has Raashi Khanna and Rajisha Vijayan playing the leading ladies. Going by the trailer, Karthi seems to be playing a spy who dons multiple getups. We see a team on the lookout for this spy who seems to be escaping from the eyes of everyone. Many users who watched the teaser have drawn comparisons with Vikram's spy thriller Cobra. Just like Karthi, Vikram too, is seen in multiple avatars in the Ajay Gnanamuthu film.

The sudden release of the teaser has come as a major surprise for Karthi fans who are excited to see him play the spy Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan in Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan. What's interesting is that the teaser of Sardar will be released during the interval of Ponniyin Selvan, thus becoming a double delight for Karthi fans. Music for the film is by GV Prakash Kumar, cinematography by George C Williams and editing is by Ruben.

The film marks the debut of Bollywood actor Chunky Panday in Tamil. The rest of the star cast includes Laila who is making a comeback with the film, Murali Sharma and Munishkanth. Major portions of the film were shot in Chennai, Mumbai, Azerbaijan and Georgia. The film is scheduled to hit screens for Diwali and will be clashing with Sivakarthikeyan's Prince. The digital rights of the film have already been bagged by Aha and the satellite rights have been acquired by Kalaignar TV.

In the meantime, Karthi, who has been aggressively promoting Ponniyin Selvan, has called the role of Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan, a spy and commander of the Chola Army, a dream come true. He also thanked Mani Ratnam for providing the opportunity to act in the magnum opus.
