Suriya is all set for the much-anticipated release of his film Retro, which is directed by the noted filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj. The upcoming Tamil film, which has received a 'U/A' certificate after completing the censor formalities, will release in theatres on May 2, 2025. Fans are now eagerly awaiting the Retro trailer to be released on April 18. Now, in an exciting update, we hear that Premam director Alphonse Puthren has cut the Retro trailer. 

Alphonse Puthren cuts Suriya’s Retro trailer

Alphonse Puthren, has helmed several popular Malayalam films such as Premam and Neram, has become a part of Suriya’s Retro team too. Ahead of the big launch of Retro trailer, director Karthik Subbaraj took to social media to announce that the popular Malayalam director has cut the trailer of his Tamil film.  

Tagging Alphonse Puthren on Twitter, Karthik wrote on social media, “Trailer for #TheOne cut by The Wild One !! Thank you My Dear Friend... Felt so happy getting #Retrofied on our Naalaya Iyakkunar Days...” 

Notably, both Karthik Subbaraj and Alphonse Puthren go way back. The noted filmmakers had started out together in the late 2000s.

The trailer and audio launch will be held on the evening of Saturday. 

Fans are elated to see Alphonse Puthren collaborating with the Tamil director and dropped heart and fire emojis below the post. Some of the comments on Twitter read “That was really surprising !!”, “Masss combo machaaaa’, and “Juck kickass this going to be banger”.

Meanwhile, Retro will release in theatres on May 1, 2025. There is a lot of expectation from Retro as Suriya has joined hands with Karthik Subbaraj, who made a solid debut with Pizza. Fans are also hoping that Retro would be a game-changer for Suriya after the underwhelming Kanguva.

The film also stars Pooja Hegde along with Joju George and Jayaram. 

On the other hand, Alphonse Puthren’s last film was Gold in 2022. The film, which starred Lucifer director Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara, failed to live up to the audience’s expectations.
