The casting on the Hindi remake is currently underway with Suriya also attached to co-produce the film
Director Sudha Kongara’s acclaimed film Soorarai Pottru, which was a direct-to-OTT release on Amazon Prime Video, is getting a Hindi remake. The news was announced by the makers today, along with the confirmation that Sudha will also direct the Bollywood version.
Suriya and Jyotika will also co-produce the film with Abundantia Entertainment, which had earlier backed the webseries Breathe and Breathe: Into the Shadows. The casting of the Hindi version is currently underway, according to the makers, with Sudha also reworking the script for the Bollywood remake. The filmmaker said that she was instantly drawn to the story of Air Deccan founder Captain GR Gopinath and that she was looking forward to tell the "unique and amazing story in Hindi", according to a report in HT City.
It’s unclear whether Suriya will reprise his role as Nedumaaran Rajangam aka Maara in the remake. The 2020 film, which is inspired by true incidents from the life of Simplify Deccan founder GR Gopinath, had Suriya as former Air Force captain Nedumaaran Rajangam, who fights tooth and nail to achieve his dream of starting a low-cost airline carrier for the common man. The inspirational drama, which also has Paresh Rawal, Aparna Balamurali, Mohan Babu and Achyuth Kumar, is about how Nedumaaran along with the support of his friends and family overcome a journey filled with hurdles.
Since its release last year, Soorarai Pottru went on to become the third highest rated movie on IMDb after The Shawshank Redemption and The Godfather. The film was also selected as one among the 10 Indian movies to be screened for the Best Foreign Film category at this year’s Golden Globe Awards.
Soorarai Pottru joins the long list of Tamil movies that are getting a Bollywood remake, after Vikram Vedha, Maanagaram, Aruvi and Kaithi.
