Actor Ram Pothineni, for the first time in his career, donned the khaki-clad for The Warriorr, that released earlier this year. The bilingual marked his debut in the Tamil market, while it was director Linguasamy’s first straight Telugu film. Krithi Shetty, Nadiya Moidu, Aadhi Pinisetty and Posani played other crucial roles in the film that didn’t fare too well in theatres.
Disney+ Hotstar had bagged the digital rights for both versions and witnessed good viewership for The Warrriorr post its streaming premiere. The film was recently telecast on Star Maa on a non-festival day, coinciding with the T20 World Cup 2022 match of India vs South Africa and going by the TRPs, has struck a chord with viewers on television as well.
Reports indicate that the film has fetched 10.02 TRP on its first telecast, an impressive feat, even after its non-performance at the box office. The rating is one of the highest for a Telugu film in recent times and the fourth highest in 2022. The reception on OTT and television certainly proves that avenues beyond the theatrical medium could also help a film’s cause.
The story revolves around Satya, a medico who leaves for Kurnool to intern at a leading hospital. He falls for a RJ ‘Whistle’ Mahalakshmi soon. While going about his job, he is increasingly troubled by how a local goon Guru is on a killing spree, taking the law into his own hands. Satya retaliates when his battle with Guru gets personal but he’s ultimately silenced. Will Satya bounce back?
Brahmaji, Saranya Pradeep, Jaya Prakash and Akshara Gowda form the supporting cast of the film. The bilingual’s score was composed by Devi Sri Prasad with ‘The Bullet song’, Dhada Dhada and Whistle proving to be a hit with music buffs. The Warriorr is bankrolled by Srinivasaa Chitturi under Srinivasa Silver Screen. The banner is reuniting with Ram Pothineni for director Boyapati Srinu’s next too.
