Sushmita Sen on her web series Aarya: I have lived Aarya Sareen through my life

As the globe prepares to commemorate International Women's Day this month, Sushmita Sen, who made her digital debut with Disney+ Hotstar's Aarya, talks about delivering an uplifting, clutter-free store and how she identifies with her character "Aarya Sareen" from Aarya, who defies gender norms.

Sushmita told Mid-day that she had lived Aarya Sareen's life. The actor went on to say that from becoming the first Indian woman to win the title of Miss Universe at the age of 18, to parenting two daughters single-handedly and amusing audiences through clutter-breaking stories, 

Playing Aarya on Hotstar Specials for Sushmita has been a worthwhile and motivating experience, portraying the link between a mother and a lady who can keep her family together in all circumstances. For her, Aarya is a tribute to all the courageous women who are defying gender stereotypes and conquering the globe.

Aarya is a narrative of Aarya Sareen, who is a kind mother and a loving wife. She is, however, rather naive and is oblivious to her husband's unlawful enterprise. After Aarya's husband, Tej Sareen, a pharma baron, is inexplicably slain, things go sour for their family. His entire family is being hunted down by the drug mafia and unlawful syndicates. Aarya responds by joining the gangs. The story follows her as she rises through the ranks of the mafia to become the mafia queen who wants vengeance on those who murdered her husband. She is also responsible for her three children.

The show was nominated for an International Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series just recently. It's based on Penoza, the Dutch drama series.
