Aarya season 2 has been receiving a lot of love and appreciation from people ever since the series released on Disney+Hotstar on December 11. The show, which stars Sushmita Sen in the lead role, is still catching up with the viewers, who have made it the most popular OTT original of the week. Atrangi Re, which is the latest OTT release, has barely made an entry onto the list. However, that is not to be blamed since the ranking is from December 17-23 while the film released on December 24.
Ormax Media has released a list of the top OTT originals of the week from December 17-23 and Aarya season 2, followed by Money Heist season 5 part 2, lead the pack. While Aarya has just bounced back, Money Heist ended with the latest release.
See the list here:
Indian dramas have dominated the list, for five web series and one Indian film has made it to the list. The other shows include Money Heist, The Witcher, Hawkeye and The Wheel of Time.
While the Spanish show Money Heist is the second most popular OTT original, two Indian web shows dominate on the third and fourth position. Inside Edge season 3 gains the third rank while Raveena Tandon’s Aranyak is the fourth most popular OTT original of the week.
Kay Kay Menon’s Special Ops 1.5 still manages to remain on the list while Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush-starring film Atrangi Re makes an entry on the list at number eight. The ranking is quite good considering the film had not even been released on OTT during the period.
R Madhavan and Surveen Chawla’s Decoupled, which has been shunned by the critics, also managed to make it to the top 10, again, likely because it also released on December 24. The Wheel Of Time’s finale episode also released on the same day as Decoupled and Atrangi Re and thus, it was among the top 10 and not top five.
Both The Witcher season 2 and Hawkeye, which released on December 17 and December 22 respectively, created a lesser impact than always. The Witcher, especially, has been a fan favourite but was unable to keep up to the mark and thus, ranked fifth on the list. Hawkeye’s last episode also failed to grab many eyeballs, making it the absolutely last series on the list.
Apart from Indian series, another important thing to note this week is that women-centric shows like Aarya 2 and Aranyak have dominated the list, thus starting the trend of female-centric shows on OTT as well. It would be interesting to see if this trend actually does continue as the years go by.
